More about Tallow
What is tallow?
Tallow is rendered beef fat and has been used as an ingredient in skincare for thousands of years. Tallow is the OG in the skincare world and is deeply moisturizing. Animald products have a special combination of vitamins A, B12, D, K, & E - something that is not found in their plant based counter parts. Grass-fed beef is also high in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which has powerful anti-inflammatory and has antimicrobial properties. Tallow works particularly well for mature and dry skin.
Where do you find your ingredients?
Our tallow comes from our own cattle that are raised on pastures right here in Central Minnesota. The infused oils are sourced organic or wildcrafted herbs and the highest quality organic carriers. The infusions also go thru a series of homeopathic processes for an added energetic element on top of all the physical benefits. The essential oils, come from a few suppliers that source small batch high quality artisan distilled essential oils, all with individual lot numbers, GCMS, and the whole 9 yards. Quality over quantity, always.
What does tallow smell like?
Tallow is made from the fat of beef cattle, so it does have a mild “animal” smell. Our balms are formulated with infused oils and essential oils known to support and nourish skin and bring in their own scent and aromatic properties.
How long will my tallow balm last?Balms are anhydrous, a fancy term which means oil-based. Because there is no water, mold does not have a medium to grow. You can of course inadvertently introduce water into the balm with wet fingers which is why we advise you to make sure your hands are clean and dry before opening the jars. Balms have a one year shelf life, if mold free it is still useable long after that, although the aromatic and therapeutic properties will begin to degrade over time even with added natural topocopherols(natural preservatives such as Vitamin E). If black/green spots appear, discontinue use.
It feels greasy.
Less is more! A very small amount goes a LONG way. If it is not absorbed into the skin within a short period of time, use less next time.
The price seems awfully expensive.
Price is relative.
Expensive compared to what? The cheap stuff that doesn't work. Yeah, cost vs. value. Some things we shouldn't cut corners on and those corners vary from person to person. One persons "cheap" is another persons "value".
We think nothing about spending $2 on a pop or water, $5 for a coffee or a bag of chips that will be gone in 5 minutes, but $10 for 15-30+ times of bug bite relief, wrinkle erasing anti-inflammatory skin goodness is expensive. Nontoxic skincare without synthetics and garbage, isn't cheap. Choose what is right for you, only you know what will fit into your priorities and goals in the best way possible.
